About Zinnia Dungjen

Zinnia currently attends Interlochen Arts Academy as a third year senior majoring in Popular Singer-Songwriting, planning to graduate this spring of 2025. She is a multi-faceted instrumentalist and vocalist. Zinnia has lived in Leelanau County her whole life and started performing gigs around Northern Michigan in the summer of 2022. She has had a deep love of music her whole life, largely due to the music she was surrounded by growing up thanks to her parents. She has been performing since she was a toddler at her father's weekly open mic night, and has an extensive background in musical theater and classical music. Zinnia is a member of the band A to Z Music which she started with her friend Audrey Mason. The duo performs gigs with around Northern Michigan. She hopes to continue her individual music career and her time playing music with A to Z. Next year Zinnia will attend NYU where she will pursue her music career in New York while attaining her bachelors degree in Media, Culture, and Communications.

On the Music of it All...

Zinnia Dungjen is an indie alternative grunge musician, whose music explores a wide range of emotion. From phoebe bridgers folk, to Big Thief lyricism and Wilco esc arrangements, Dungjen explores the human condition, feminism and the trials and tribulations of life through water and natural imagery set to 90’s grunge alternative soundscapes. Releasing her first EP in the Summer 2025, she hopes to continue her solo and band careers in New York City as a first year NYU student. Travelling from backwoods Northern Michigan, growing up on the coast of Lake Michigan’s waters, Dungjen writes many odes to her hometown, while incorporating new, industrial changes to her music representing the big city. She hopes her music can reach people the way her favorite artists speak to her, and shares often how grateful she is to be able to be an artist and creative in the world.
